How we check a number

The source is the authority itself: the coast guard, navy, maritime administration or police. Where its site is down or silent, a foreign government’s travel advice or the Cospas-Sarsat contact list, and the page says so.
If a local short code may not connect from a foreign SIM, the page gives the centre’s full international number first and the short code second.
A number we could not confirm is left out — the page then says what we found instead.
