European maritime emergency numbers

SHORT ANSWER

112 works from any phone across Europe and is always correct in an emergency (999 in the UK and Ireland too). On the radio, VHF channel 16 and DSC channel 70 reach every rescue centre and ship in range. Calling the responsible maritime rescue centre directly removes a transfer step — the numbers are below.
