The depth is published for only 745 of them (3.6 %). When you enter a draught, harbours with a known depth that fits come first; harbours with unknown depth are listed separately below them — never hidden, never guessed. Every fact on a harbour page carries its source and the date we checked it.

Counts: VesselSOS harbour directory, 5 Nov 2026. Sources: harbour websites, official harbour registers, OpenStreetMap and Wikidata.

Depths are what each harbour publishes. Always check the chart and the harbour, and keep a margin under the keel.

Water levels move with wind, season and tide, and one berth can be shallower than the harbour’s deepest. VesselSOS is an aid, not a rescue service — in distress call on VHF channel 16 or the local emergency number.

A search shows here only when the data has at least 10 harbours for it.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps to a harbour you can get into.

  1. 01Your boat

Draught, length and beam, in metres or feet. Leave out what you don’t need.

  2. 02Your wishes

Sauna, fuel, showers, shore power, pump-out — a harbour must have all you pick. Add guest berths, a country or “near me”.

  3. 03Your harbour

Harbours that fit come first, unknown depth below them. Open the page, check the chart and call ahead.

Every harbour page has

  • Position in degrees and minutes, ready for the plotter
  • VHF channel and call sign, when the harbour has one
  • The rescue centre for that sea area, with its number
  • Live weather — wind, gusts and the next hours
  • Hazards nearby reported by other boaters
  • Services — fuel, sauna, pump-out, crane …
  • Prices with their source and the date we checked them

Shown where the harbour publishes it — if we don’t have it, we don’t show it.

Questions

What is “maximum draught” on a harbour page?

It is the deepest keel the harbour says it takes — usually the depth it publishes for its berths or approach. We keep the harbours whose published depth is at least your draught. It is not a promise: water levels change with wind, season and tide, and a berth can be shallower than the harbour’s best figure. Keep a margin under the keel and check the chart.

What is a guest harbour?

A harbour or marina that takes visiting boats for a night or longer, not only its own berth holders. In the Nordics and the Baltic it is the “guest harbour” (vierasvenesatama, gästhamn, külalissadam). We mark a harbour as having guest berths when it publishes them — call or radio ahead in high season.

Why is the depth unknown for so many harbours?

Most harbours never publish a depth we can source. We take it only from the harbour itself, an official harbour register or the open map data — we never estimate it. Today we have it for 745 of 20,760 harbours. Harbours without a depth are not hidden: they are listed separately under “depth unknown”, so you can check them yourself.

Is the Harbour Finder free?

Yes. Searching and every harbour page are free, with no account. Harbours can claim their own page and keep it right, also free. The VesselSOS app is free for the SOS; live tracking for someone ashore and the return-time check are part of Pro.

Can I trust the depths and prices?

They are what each harbour publishes, with the source and the date we checked it on the harbour page. Always check the chart, the harbour’s own site or the harbour master before you go in.
