What changed, and when

ADDED

Channel Islands: Guernsey Coastguard (Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm) and Jersey Coastguard (Jersey, Les Minquiers, Les Écréhous) now have their own areas. The app dials 112 and you ask for the Coastguard (999 also works), as Guernsey Harbours advises. Before, these waters fell inside the French CROSS boxes and showed France’s 196, which only works on French networks.

CORRECTED

Houston-Galveston: the Coast Guard sector’s 24-hour Command Center line is now (866) 539-8114 (its page listed (206) 815-7738 in July 2026). 911 is unchanged as the number to call.

AREA

France: CROSS Méditerranée’s area now includes the coast from Villefranche to Menton (it stopped at 43.7° N). Monaco keeps 112.

AREA

Spain: MRCC Tarifa’s area now stops at the middle of the Strait of Gibraltar and MRCC Las Palmas’s at Tarfaya, so Moroccan waters get Morocco’s centre. Melilla and the Chafarinas Islands added to MRCC Almería.

AREA

United States: the Sector San Diego and Corpus Christi areas and the 911 catch-all now end at the Mexican boundary; Sector Miami no longer takes in Bimini (Bahamas); Sector Key West ends at the US–Cuba line (24° N).

AREA

Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon: inside its waters the French authority’s line (+508 55 16 16) now comes first; MRSC St. John’s (Canada) is the second line.

AREA

Costa Rica: the Caribbean area now stops short of San Juan del Norte (Greytown), which is Nicaraguan and now gets Nicaragua’s number.

ADDED

Added 84 countries and territories outside Europe: the Caribbean and Bermuda, Mexico, Central and South America, Asia, the Pacific islands, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Gulf, and Africa. Every number was checked against the authority’s own page or, where the page says so, foreign-government travel advice or the Cospas-Sarsat contact list.

ADDED

Canada added: the five Coast Guard rescue centres (JRCC Victoria, JRCC Trenton, JRCC Halifax, MRSC Québec, MRSC St. John’s) on their 24-hour lines, and 911 for inland waters the Coast Guard does not serve.

CORRECTED

United Kingdom: Solent Coastguard is listed as JRCC Fareham, where its coordination work moved in 2014; “Solent Coastguard” remains the VHF call sign. 999 (ask for the Coastguard) is unchanged.

CORRECTED

Malta: radio call sign corrected to Malta VTS / Malta Radio. 112 is routed to the Armed Forces of Malta Operations Centre.

CORRECTED

Guam: Coast Guard Sector Guam’s emergency line is (206) 815-7813; the 1-877-418-0168 number was dropped from its page in 2026.

CHANGED

Alaska: Sector Anchorage is now Coast Guard Sector Western Alaska and U.S. Arctic (USCG, 12 February 2026); its area is split at the US–Russia line in the Bering Strait.

RE-CHECKED

Albania: 125, QNOD’s 24-hour sea emergency line, confirmed as the number to call; 112 still covers only the Tirana area.

RE-CHECKED

All 30 European countries re-checked against the authorities’ own pages.
