Overview
The Vlaamse Yachthaven Nieuwpoort (VYN), called VVW Nieuwpoort until 2017, is the boating association behind Nieuwpoort’s largest marina. It grew out of a 1969 plan to build a yacht harbour on the east side of town open to all Flemish boaters; the first 400 boats were afloat in 1970 and the Novus Portus inner basin followed in 1979. The club has a clubhouse with bar and restaurant, runs club racing such as the relaxed Cherry Races for all types of boat, and is home to the Vlaamse Vaarschool, which has taught sailing and motorboating since 1976.
