Overview
The Koninklijke Yacht Club Nieuwpoort was founded in 1932 and is one of Belgium's oldest yacht clubs. Since 1971 it has been based on the Kromme Hoek, the peninsula to starboard as you enter the harbour channel, with its own marina accessible at any state of tide. The KYCN is a founding member of the North Sea Championship and has hosted Belgian, European and world championships; it runs the H-Cup handicap series and, with the RNSYC, the Open Belgian Sailing Week. Its Sailing Academy runs sea-sailing courses in RS Fevas and Laser Vagos, and through Zachte Kracht and Sail in Solidarity young people from care settings go sailing too.
