La Trinité-sur-Mer and the Gulf of Morbihan: boating safety
Last verified:
La Trinité-sur-Mer is one of France's best-known sailing ports, home to offshore racing fleets and a gateway to the Baie de Quiberon, Belle-Île and the islands of south Brittany. Next door, the Golfe du Morbihan is an enclosed 'little sea' of some 50 islands with very strong tidal streams, oyster parks, ferries and a regional nature park.

Hazards
The Gulf of Morbihan has very strong tidal streams: the current at La Jument sometimes exceeds 9 knots, one of the fastest in Europe. Shifting sandbanks, many oyster parks and dense traffic make pilotage demanding; use chart SHOM 7137 L and check tide times, which differ by location.
