Overview
Kragerø Seilforening was founded on 19 April 1881 as Kragerø Seilklub and is one of Norway's oldest sailing clubs. Its home is Saltneven, just across the fjord from Kragerø town, where the club runs a guest harbour with pontoons, a waterside shed, showers, toilets and a kiosk. Local classes are strong: the Kragerøterne, a clinker-built two-person dinghy designed by Carl Iversen in 1939 with nearly 700 built, has its own class championship and the Round Skåtøy race, and the seilkogg – the local sailing double-ender – is still raced in Kragerø. The club's evening series from Saltneven is open to all sailing boats, and the club has a junior team, a women's team, a Sailing League team and a sailing camp for children aged 8 to 15. As early as 1881 the club made lifejackets compulsory for racing, after an accident in its very first regatta.
