Overview
The Reale Società Canottieri Cerea was founded in Turin in 1863, when seven young men rowing on the Po decided to organise; the name comes from the Piedmontese greeting "cerea". It is Italy's longest continuously active rowing club, has its 1886 boathouse on the Po by the Valentino park and was among the founders of the Italian Rowing Federation and of FISA. Its history includes epic river journeys to Venice, Rome and London. Today it runs the SilverSkiff, the 11 km single-sculls endurance race on the Po, courses from age 8 to adults and rowing as health therapy; it has more registered masters rowers than any other Italian club.
