Overview

Suomalainen Pursiseura (The Finnish Yacht Club, SPS) was founded in January 1913 as Helsinki’s first Finnish-speaking yacht club. Its home is Sirpalesaari on the western edge of the Merisatama harbour: pontoons on both sides of the island, a breakwater harbour for larger yachts, winter storage with an 8-tonne tower crane and the Restaurant Saari. SPS runs several races a year and cruising squadrons for members; a club sailor won Olympic gold in the 49er class in 2000.
