Overview
Der Hamburger und Germania Ruder Club, known as 'Der Club', was founded in 1836 and is considered the oldest rowing club outside England; its boathouse is on the Alsterufer on the Outer Alster. Members row from March to October on the Alster and its canals – in high-performance rowing with results up to U19 and U23 world championships, in the Rowing Bundesliga with the eight 'Alstersprinter', in recreational and touring rowing, and in groups for children, juniors and schools. The club runs beginners' courses for adults and a rowing group for deaf people together with the Hamburg deaf sports club. In 1844 club members staged Germany's first rowing regatta on the Outer Alster.
