Overview
The Royal Yacht Club Oostende was founded on 16 April 1846 as the Cercle des Régates and calls itself Belgium's oldest yacht club; it has carried the Royal title since 1910. Its 1906 clubhouse in the inner harbour has been a listed monument since 2002. The marina lies at the end of the fairway, straight off the sea and accessible at any state of tide, even for deep-draught boats. For many years the club ran offshore races to Dover, Ramsgate and Heligoland, and it ran the sailing events of the 1920 Olympic Games. Today it is a club of cruising sailors and sea anglers, with flotilla trips to England and France.
