Overview
The Wiener Ruder Club Donaubund was founded in 1878 as the 1st Vienna Ladies' and Gentlemen's Rowing Society 'Donaubund' and re-founded under its present name on 18 December 1918 as the first rowing club of the new Austrian Republic – women rowed here long before they had the vote. Its boathouse is at the Dampfschiffhaufen on the Alte Donau in Vienna's Donaustadt district and has been under reconstruction and extension since January 2026. Members race from the Austrian championships on the Neue Donau to international masters regattas, and the club hosts events such as the Ruperti Pokal.
