For visiting boats
Vilamoura Marina, in Loulé municipality, is Portugal's largest marina, with 825 berths for boats up to 60 m including the New Marina with 68 berths for large yachts of 20–50 m. Digging began in 1971 and the first yacht came in in 1974. The entrance has 4 m depth and the basins 3.3 m and 2.0 m; call 'Vilamoura Radio' on VHF 9, watched 24 h (outside office hours only within about 1 mile of the coast). On arrival, moor at the reception pontoon to check in. The boatyard has a slipway, a 60 t travel hoist, 6 t and 2 t cranes and dry storage for 200 boats, and the quay is lined with restaurants, bars and shops.
