Overview
Biscayne Bay Yacht Club grew out of a Washington's Birthday boat race on Biscayne Bay in February 1887 and is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the southeastern United States. Its burgee carries '25 N' for the bay's latitude. After early homes in the old Cape Florida Lighthouse and on the downtown bayfront, it has been on South Bayshore Drive in Coconut Grove since 1932. The club runs the Sunburn Regatta (since 1935), the two-day Lime Cup ocean race from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, the International Etchells Series and Biscayne Bay Yacht Racing Association races, and every 22 February holds its Chowder Party, reached by boat only. Its youth program is known for windsurfing and wind foiling as well as sailing.
