Overview
The Amsterdamsche Studenten Roeivereeniging Nereus was founded on 10 December 1885 as the fifth student rowing club in the Netherlands and has its boathouse on the Amsteldijk by the Amstel. With over 1,000 active members, about 122 boats in the shed and, by the club’s count, 137 Olympic rowers and more than 4,000 wins, Nereus is among the largest and most successful rowing clubs in the country. Its eight won at Henley Royal Regatta as early as 1895, and the first Olympic medal followed in 1900. Women have been able to join since 1903. Nereus regularly races the Varsity, the Hollandia, the Heineken Roeivierkamp and Henley.
