Overview

Vilnius Yacht Club was founded on 10 January 1926 – a date also regarded as the start of Lithuanian offshore sailing. In 1930 the club built a clubhouse on the Karvinė peninsula at Trakai, and after the war the Trakai lakes became one of Lithuania's main sailing centres, with sailing courses from 1952. Club crews won the team prize at the first Curonian Lagoon Regatta in 1954, and its sailors long formed the core of the Lithuanian team.
