Overview
Yacht Club Punta Ala was founded in 1976 and sits in Punta Ala harbour in the Maremma, looking out to the Sparviero islet and Elba. It is the club that launched Luna Rossa's first America's Cup challenge in 1997 and won the Louis Vuitton Cup with her in 2000. It has hosted Star, Soling, Mumm 36 and Melges 24 world championships, runs the 151 Miglia offshore race and the Gavitello d'Argento club-team regatta, and takes sailors with disabilities afloat. The sailing school has a summer base on the beach in the pinewood and a winter racing squad; it is an FIV centre for under-16 and match racing.
