Overview
The Nautical Club of Thessaloniki was founded in 1931 and is one of the oldest water-sports clubs in Greece; it started with rowing and added sailing in the mid-1950s. Since 1964 it has had its own premises on the Kalamaria waterfront, with rowing and sailing boathouses and tennis courts. Its offshore sailing school has run since 1975 with more than 7,000 graduates, and the youth academy teaches Optimist and ILCA sailing from age five. It runs the Alexander the Great Cup for Olympic classes and the North Aegean Cup sailing week for offshore yachts.
