Overview
The Yacht Club of Greece was founded in 1933 at Mikrolimano in Piraeus and is the country's most historic sailing club; in 1952 it founded the Hellenic Sailing Federation. Its clubhouse stands on Kastella hill and its waterfront base is the ancient harbour of Munichia, with berths for members' boats, cranes for small craft and boats for sailors with disabilities. It runs dinghy schools (Optimist, ILCA, Lightning), a Kids Sailing Center, match-racing and team-racing centres and an offshore school leading to the sailing licence. With the Nautical Club of Andros it organises the Andros International Race, plus offshore races in the Saronic Gulf.
