Overview
Kotkan Pursiseura – Kotka Segelsällskap (KPS) was founded in spring 1888 by sailors of the Kotka sawmill community. Since the 1960s its base has been Meriniemi beside the Sapokka water garden, with club pontoons, the guest harbour, saunas, a fuel station and a café-restaurant, plus the outer-island base Pitkäluoto. The club launched the Kotka International Regatta and the race round Suursaari (Gogland) in 1990, and has had a motorboat section since 1948. Juniors start on a beginners’ course in Optimists and Zoom8s with SPV-trained instructors.
