Overview
The Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria was founded in 1908 in Las Palmas to promote water sports, culture and tourism on the island, and has had royal honorary presidency since its early days. Its first base was in the harbour basin where the Santa Catalina and Sanapú quays meet today; when the port was reorganised it moved south of the naval arsenal, to León y Castillo street. It covers 45,000 m² with a marina of more than 185 berths (members only), a dinghy park for over 150 boats and a boatyard with a 45 t travel lift. It has about 6,000 members, a sailing school with Optimist, adult sailing, windsurf, wing-foil and kayak courses, and has produced Olympians and world champions.
