Overview
The Royal Palma Yacht Club was formed in 1948 by merging the Club de Regatas (1891) and the Club España (1919), the two clubs of Palma harbour, and is regarded as the senior club of the Balearics. Clubhouse and marina sit on the Paseo Marítimo at the head of the Bay of Palma, with over a thousand berths, a 100 t travel lift and a boatyard. The club runs more than 30 regattas a year, including the Copa del Rey for cruiser-racers every August, PalmaVela in spring and the Ciutat de Palma Optimist trophy in December, and co-organises the Princess Sofia Trophy. Its schools teach dinghy sailing and canoeing, and its race teams sail Optimist, ILCA, 420, 29er, Snipe and OK Dinghy.
