Overview
The Real Club Mediterráneo was founded in Málaga on 20 September 1873 for rowing and describes itself as Spain's oldest yacht club; it has carried the 'Real' (royal) title since 1892. It has always been based in Málaga harbour by La Farola lighthouse and today has about 4,000 members and eight sports sections. Children start sailing in the Optimist (ages 6–14) and move on to the ILCA, adults learn in ILCAs and Snipes, and there is a cruiser fleet; its rowers race Olympic-style and coastal rowing. Its schools train more than 900 children, and the club runs its own marina in the port of Málaga.
