Overview
The Real Club de Regatas de Alicante was founded on 23 April 1889 on Postiguet beach and moved in 1890 to the harbour, to the 'Casa de Botes'; it received the Real title in 1900 and its clubhouse opened in 1911. In the early 20th century its rowers dominated the Spanish championships for almost twenty years, and from the 1960s sailing grew, with national titles in 470, Snipe, Vaurien and cruisers and three sailors at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. It has two bases: the social and cruiser base in the harbour and La Cantera for dinghies and the school. It runs the Trofeo Tabarca – Ciudad de Alicante (30th edition), rowing events, dragon boat, sea kayaking and fishing.
