Overview
The Real Club Astur de Regatas was founded in Gijón in 1911 to 'spread the love of recreational sailing', like other clubs in the Cantabrian ports. Its main facilities are in the Cimadevilla quarter on the slope of the Santa Catalina hill, west of San Lorenzo bay, with the Santa Catalina pavilion and its pool. It had royal patronage from its early years, with royal participation in its regattas of 1912 and 1913, and keeps close ties with the Navy. It has a sailing school, racing fleets and its own regatta calendar, plus a busy social programme.
