Overview

Monte Real Club de Yates was born on 24 March 1965 in Baiona, growing out of the Erizana Yachting Club Internacional founded a year earlier, and has its clubhouse and marina in the Parador grounds at the mouth of the Ría de Vigo. From the start it has focused on two things: drawing international cruising yachts and running regattas. It has organised several Lymington–Bayona races, European and world championships and many match-race events, and every year the Trofeo Príncipe de Asturias, its flagship regatta since 1986; in 1989 it launched an America's Cup challenge and entered the Cup three times. Its sailing school runs courses for children, adults and adapted sailing, and it sails a J80 autumn league.
