Overview
Norddeutscher Regatta Verein (NRV) was founded in Hamburg in 1868 and, with about 2,200 members, is one of Germany's largest sailing clubs. Its clubhouse and youth sailing centre sit on the Schöne Aussicht shore of the Outer Alster, where the club runs more than 20 regattas a year – lots of Dragons, H-Boats, Stars, ILCAs and Optimists, plus the Helga Cup, a big women's regatta sailed in J/70s. The NRV helped found Kiel Week and Travemünde Week, co-organises the North Sea Week to Heligoland, and its offshore section races from the Baltic to across the Atlantic. Juniors train year-round with professional coaches, from the Optimist through the 420 and 29er up to the Olympic classes.
