Overview
Kieler Yacht-Club (KYC) was founded in 1887 and has had its clubhouse on the Kiellinie waterfront of the Kiel Fjord since 1926; a second clubhouse with the youth base has stood in Strande since 1991. The club organises Kiel Week, offshore races such as the MaiOR and the blueribboncup to Aarhus, and the international YES youth regatta at Pentecost in Schilksee. Juniors start in the Optimist and move on to the Feva, ILCA 4 or 29er; the club's youth yacht school sails long summer passages and offshore races on the Baltic 52 'Zukunft IV'. Adults learn in the training group on club yachts from a J/80 up to an X-442.
