Overview
Düsseldorfer Yachtclub (DYC) was founded in 1908 and is one of Germany's most traditional watersports clubs. Its clubhouse, yard and marina are on the Rhine at kilometre 747 near the trade-fair grounds, with a terrace over the river; this is home mainly to members' motorboats. Because current and commercial traffic make the Rhine too much for beginners, the club trains on the Löwensee near Kaarst, about 15 km away: children and juniors – more than a quarter of the members – sail Optimists, 420s and Lasers there, and the club runs the Pinta Opti Trophy every year. Cruising sailors can use the club's X-442; in 1922 the DYC co-organised the Rhine Week with other clubs.
