Overview
The German-British Yacht Club (DBYC) in Berlin-Kladow carries on the tradition of the British sailing clubs of post-war Berlin: the United Forces Sailing Club of 1947 led to the British Berlin Yacht Club in 1952, and on 6 November 1991 – with the Allies' departure in sight – the DBYC was founded. The club grounds are on the Unterhavel. Its best-known regatta is the Grand Slam at the end of the season on the first weekend of November, usually with 50 to 70 boats, along with the Round the Island Spring Regatta on 1 May and the Tripartite Regatta of the three former Allied clubs. Club boats such as an IF-Boot and a Schwertzugvogel are free for members after a briefing.
