Overview
Iate Clube de Santa Catarina – Veleiros da Ilha (ICSC) began on 1 December 1942, when 22 sailors left the Florianópolis Yacht Club to found the Clube Veleiros da Ilha de Santa Catarina with a handful of Sharpies; the present name dates from 1975. It has two bases: the Central base in downtown Florianópolis on the South Bay, with three jetties, moorings, a yard and shed, a ramp for motorboats up to 62 ft, a crane for yachts up to 15 t, fuel and workshops; and the Ocean base at Jurerê in the north of the island, with a jetty, moorings for members and visitors and the sailing school. It runs the Copa Veleiros offshore and one-design series and the traditional race round the island. In 2016 the Central base became the first club in South America to earn the Blue Flag.
