Overview
Clube dos Jangadeiros (CDJ), founded on 7 December 1941, sits on Tristeza bay in the south of Porto Alegre, on the Guaíba. Its heart is Ilha dos Jangadeiros, an island built by the members in the 1960s, with the marina, five fixed jetties plus floating pontoons, a boat crane up to 15 t, sheds for motorboats and dinghies, a maintenance and paint shed and the club's own race committee. Since 1975 it has housed the Barra Limpa sailing school, the first sailing school in Brazil with its own building. The club has hosted the Snipe (1959, 1993) and 470 (1980, 1996) world championships and runs the Cayru Trophy with its race round Ilha das Pombas.
