Overview
Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club – 'the Alfreds' – was formed in Sydney in 1867 and today sits on Green Point at Newport, on Pittwater in Sydney's Northern Beaches. It is one of Australia's oldest yacht clubs and runs racing most days of the week, inshore and offshore, scored mainly under ORC with IRC for the coastal pointscore. Its flagship offshore events are the Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race and, with the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, the 1,250 nm Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race, while the Pittwater Regatta brings around a hundred boats to Broken Bay. A centreboard division races off the beach from Optimists to foiling WASZPs, and the Discover Sailing academy trains kids, youth and adults. The club has a 342-berth floating marina, moorings and a full boatyard with a 50-tonne travel lift.
