Overview
The Union-Yacht-Club Attersee was founded on 10 July 1886 as a branch of the Vienna Union-Yacht-Club and, with more than 900 members, is Austria's largest sailing club. Its grounds at Aufham near Attersee on the west shore of the lake have a clubhouse from 1908, a start tower and a restaurant; pontoon, buoy and shore berths are reserved for members and regatta guests. The club has sailed the Atterseewoche since 1887 and also runs the 12 & 24 Hours of the Attersee, the Optimist week, national and European championships for Stars, Dragons, Solings, H-boats, Finns and ILCAs, and the December 'Eisarsch' charity regatta. The Austrian sailing federation named it 'best club overall' in 2005 and 2006.
