Overview
The Linzer Ruderverein Ister was founded in 1876, after the owners of the Linz shipyard brought rowing from England to Linz in 1865; today it rows from its boathouse Am Winterhafen in Linz on the Danube and celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2026. Ister rowers competed at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won the club's first world championship medal in 1962 in the coxless four. The club is known for long touring trips – as early as 1955 a crew rowed Linz–Ulm–Linz, 900 km – and offers racing, improvers' sessions and touring.
