Overview
Stamford Yacht Club was organized on 16 October 1890 and sits on Shippan Point in Stamford, Connecticut, on Long Island Sound. It is the sponsor and host of the Vineyard Race, run since 1932 over the Labor Day weekend: a 238-mile course from Shippan Point out to the light tower at the entrance to Buzzards Bay and back, leaving Block Island to starboard both ways, with shorter 116 and 143-mile courses — sailors who finish ten or more join the Buzzard Society. The club also runs the Stamford Overnight Race, the Denmark Race, one-design and evening series and winter frostbiting, and has junior sailing and junior big-boat programs; the dock house handles launch and moorings.
