Overview

Severn Sailing Association is a one-design racing club on Sycamore Point in Annapolis, Maryland. Sailors from the Round Bay community incorporated it on 28 October 1954; members built the clubhouse in 1958 and filled and bulkheaded the point themselves before opening day in April 1959. It is home to an unusually long list of active one-design fleets — from Optimists, 29ers, C420s, ILCAs and WASZPs to Day Sailers, Harbor 20s, J/22s, J/24s, J/70s, Lightnings, Snipes, Solings and Thistles — and has hosted many North American championships. Its own regattas include the Ice Bowl, Frigid Digit, Crab Claw and Sunshine Open, and the club's junior program, started in 1960, runs from Optimist race teams to 29er travel teams.
