Overview
Edgartown Yacht Club was founded in 1905 on Martha's Vineyard and since 1926 has had its clubhouse on Osborn's Wharf at the foot of Main Street, once the town's main whaling wharf. It runs the Edgartown Race Weekend, whose 'Round-the-Island race around Martha's Vineyard — about 55 nm past seven lighthouses, first sailed in 1938 — is its centerpiece, along with the annual regatta held since 1924 and a 12 Metre regatta. The Edgartown Junior Yacht Club, formed in 1923, sails on Katama Bay and the outer harbor from a waterfront base on Dock Street and a sailing center on Chappaquiddick. Visiting yachtsmen from accepted clubs can use the clubhouse and the club launch on VHF 72 for up to three days a season; moorings come from the town harbormaster.
