Overview
Sligo Yacht Club sits at Rosses Point, about 8 km from Sligo town, and races on Sligo Bay. The first club, founded in 1821, sailed on Lough Gill but had faded away by 1900; it was revived in 1965 by sailors building their own GP14s, and the GP14 and Mirror fleets are still its backbone, alongside J/24 keelboats and cruisers. Evening racing runs several nights a week, junior courses through July and August follow the Irish Sailing syllabus, and the clubhouse has a viewing gallery and the America's Cup Bar. The club has a long record of hosting championships – the Enterprise Worlds (1979), Mirror Worlds (1987 and 2023) and GP14 Worlds (2006) among them – and runs the Ladies Cup regatta.
