Overview
Dublin University Boat Club is the rowing club of Trinity College Dublin, tracing its roots to the Pembroke Club of 1836, which rowed small boats on the Dodder at Ringsend – three years before the first Henley Regatta. After the Dublin University Rowing Club (1847) the present boat club was formed in 1867, and today it rows from Islandbridge on the River Liffey, supported by its alumni club, the Lady Elizabeth Boat Club. The club runs Trinity Regatta, first held in 1866 and at Islandbridge since 1898, raced as side-by-side knock-out duels over a sweeping 1,800 m stretch of the Liffey that spectators follow along the towpath.
