Overview
Thames Rowing Club was founded in Putney in 1860 for 'organised pleasure or exercise rowing' and soon made its name at Henley, winning its first trophy there (the Wyfold) in 1870 and 21 more by 1890, including four Grand Challenge Cups. It rows from its own boathouse on Putney Embankment on the Tideway, admitted women in 1973 and became a powerhouse of women's rowing, with members in Britain's first women's Olympic rowing medal crew in 2000, and has won at Henley Women's Regatta more than 50 times.
