Overview
Hayling Island Sailing Club sits on Sandy Point at the entrance to Chichester Harbour, with sheltered harbour courses on one side and the open water of Hayling Bay on the other. Founded in 1921, it opened its present lottery-funded clubhouse in 2003 and races a big spread of dinghy and keelboat classes, from Merlin Rockets, Fireballs (whose prototype trials were held here in 1962) and Flying Fifteens to foiling Moths, RS classes and four youth classes. In 2026 it hosted the RYA Youth Nationals, the 505 Worlds and national championships for 29ers, RS400/4000 and Elite keelboats, alongside its own youth race week and Chichester Harbour Race Week, and it runs RYA dinghy, windsurf and powerboat training for adults and juniors.
