Overview
Fremantle Sailing Club sits on Success Harbour in South Fremantle, looking straight out to the Indian Ocean, Rottnest Island and Gage Roads. Sailing in Fremantle goes back to the 1870s, but today's club was founded in 1919 and built its own harbour and clubhouse for the 1979 Parmelia Race from Plymouth, part of Western Australia's 150th anniversary. It is a big all-round ocean club: keelboat and dinghy racing, twilight sailing, a jib-and-main cruise, cruising, power yachts, angling, game fishing and diving sections, a sailing academy with learn-to-sail, wing-foiling, safety-at-sea and VHF radio courses, and a women-on-water program. Its marina of more than 300 pens is the only international port of entry for small craft in the Perth area.
